Berwick-upon-Tweed and Beyond

Berwick-upon-Tweed is the most northerly town in England, only a mile from the Scottish Border. During your stay explore the wild North Northumberland coastline taking in everything from historic castles to stunning wildlife. Over in Scotland, the Border Country is famous for its hospitality and many a day can be spent touring the border towns such as Coldstream, Duns, Kelso and Melrose all within easy reach of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Birdwatching & Walking

The North Northumbrian and Berwickshire coast line boasts some beautiful walks and the beaches are uncrowded. Walk or drive to Holy Island and visit the Abbey.

Castles, Country Houses and Gardens

Locally Norham Castle, Paxton House and Manderston House are all a short drive away.

Alnwick Gardens is just forty minutes drive away. Floors Castle near Kelso provides guided tours, a lovely walled garden and grounds where you can picnic. Nearer still just outside Coldstream you can take a gentle stroll through the woods and gardens at the Hirsel Country Park before visiting its craft centre.

Cycling

For cycling the Queen's Head Hotel is situated at the start of the Tweed Cycle Way. For the more adventurous cyclist Glentress Forest by Peebles offers some of the best mountain biking trails in Scotland.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh famed for its fringe festival history and culture is only 45 minutes by train from Berwick-upon-Tweed and one hour's direct drive away.

Golfing

Enjoy the numerous golf courses close by. Berwick-upon-Tweed has its own course and The Hirsel at Coldstream is well recommended.

Horse riding
